Books I Love Coming to the Screen

June 10, 2016 - - -

I recently heard a few things that I felt obliged to share. You likely know that The Shannara Chronicles and The Expanse are already TV series. You may already know that Ready Player One will be coming to theaters March 30, 2018. But did you know about...

Altered Carbon on Netflix - Apparently, Altered Carbon, one of my favorite sci-fi novels, is being made into a Netflix series.

Altered Carbon is set in the 25th century when the human mind has been digitized and the soul itself is transferable from one body to the next. Takeshi Kovacs, a former elite interstellar warrior known as an Envoy who has been imprisoned for 500 years, is downloaded into a future he’d tried to stop. If he can solve a single murder in a world where technology has made death nearly obsolete, he’ll get a chance at a new life on Earth.

Seriously, if they show the tech and all its implications half as well as the book did, it will be an amazing show.

Spin on Syfy - What made Spin so good were its constant unpredictable plot twists. It's hard to even tell you what the book is about without spoiling things.

A Robopocalypse movie by Steven Spielberg - After he's done with Ready Player One, I imagine. Robopocalypse was a terrible name for one of the best AI-rebels-against-humanity stories I've ever read. I'm quite excited for that one to make it to the big screen.

Wheel of Time - I hope it gets as good a treatment as Game of Thrones. The setting is fantastic, and deserves good treatment. Apparently, it's still a ways off, but it seems closer to happening than it's been in the past.

There's word of other books such as Little Brother and Feed having been optioned, but they seem quite a bit further out than the others. Check this if you're interested in the big list.
