Strange Footprints

December 13, 2005 - -

footprintsNot long ago, when we had our first snow here, we noticed footprints in the snow outside our bedroom. This photo was taken through the french door - you can click it to view a larger version.

Linda saw the footprints, and with a gasp asked me what type of animal might have made them. If you view each print as a foot, it would have to have been something pretty big. She was thinking perhaps a mountain lion, and I was thinking a bear. But then I remembered having woken up early that Wednesday and walked over to the french door. I was right up to the glass, and a rabbit (perhaps it was technically a hare) came right up to the outside of the glass. Yes, they're rabbit prints.

There are so many french doors in the house, it should give our new kittens a great view of the outdoors. I wonder what they'd think of a rabbit?

Tricky rabbit... Well, that reminds me of something from Watership Down...

"All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and when ever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you: digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed."

Big footprints? I guess that's one from his bag of tricks.
