Rocky 6

July 13, 2006 -

Rocky 6What would you think was the least likely sequel? Aliens 5? Star Wars 7? Matrix 4? We already know they're filming Terminator 4 and Indiana Jones 4. But how about Rocky 6?

That's right. Sly Stallone is back in a 6th Rocky movie entited Rocky Balboa.

Seriously aged and long retired from boxing, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has moved on to his modest restaurant business. Feeling withdrawn after the death of his wife Adrian, he spends his days in familiar Philadelphia grounds, remembering the good ol' days and dispensing his quiet wisdom to anyone who is willing to listen. Unable to get attention from his busy entrepreneur son (Milo Ventimiglia), his loneliness leads him to an encounter and eventual relationship with Marie (Geraldine Hughes), a local girl he once knew prior to his glory days. The former heavyweight champ even befriends her troubled son. However, Rocky's financial problems eventually lead him back into the ring for a few profitable small-scale boxing matches. This instantly catches the attention of Mason "The Line" Dixon (Antonio Tarver), the current heavyweight champ, whose talent is overshadowed by constant media criticism of his behavior. With his skill in question due to a serious lack of challenging opponents, he decides on an exhibition match with the legendary Rocky Balboa. With Dixon seeking positive recognition from fans and Rocky looking for a redemptive comeback, the fight promises to be quite entertaining.

Hard to believe. Stallone has to be in his 60's by now. So what do you think? Will the movie suck? Here's the trailer.

He has a restaurant business? Is it a Deli? This reminds me of a song...

Theme From Rocky XIII (Rye And The Kaiser)
by Al Yankovic

Fat and weak, what a disgrace
Guess the champ got too lazy
Ain't gonna fly now, he's just takin' up space
Sold his gloves, threw his eggs down the drain

But he's no bum, he works down the street
He bought the neighborhood deli
Back on his feet, now he's choppin' up meat
Come inside, maybe you'll hear him say

Try the rye or the kaiser
They're on special tonight
If you want, you can have an appetizer
You might like our salami and the liver's all right
And they'd really go well with the rye
Or the kaiser

Never eats while on the job
He heard it's good to stay hungry
But he makes a pretty mean shish kabob
Have a taste, they were made fresh today

Try the rye or the kaiser or the wheat or the white
Maybe I can suggest an appetizer
Stay away from the tuna, it smells funny tonight
But you just can't go wrong with the rye
Or the kaiser

So today, his deli comes first
Still he dreams of his past days of glory
Goes in the back and beats up on the liverwurst
All the while you can still hear him say

It's the rye or the kaiser, it's the thrill of one bite
Let me please be your catering advisor
If you want substitutions I won't put up a fight
You can have your roast beef on the rye
Or the kaiser

The rye or the kaiser
The rye or the kaiser
The rye or the kaiser

Sly is two years--well, 20 months--older than I, which makes him just turned 60. Too old to take any serious whacks, for sure. Stuff just doesn't _heal_ the way it used to.

Oh yeah . . . and we got Rambo IV. Something about a kidnapped daughter.

Probably a better bet than getting in the ring--I can still shoot, he oughta be able to.

Don't know how I overlooked it, but Sly's next movie after Rocky 6 is Rambo 4!
