The Village

August 15, 2004 - -

I just got back from seeing M. Night Shyamalan's The Village.

Before seeing it, I heard many mixed reviews, and as a result had less than high expectations for the film. I think that these low expectations are a large part of what allowed me to enjoy it.

The Village is not a scare film like Signs was, and I think that people who had that expectation may have been disappointed. While there were some frightening portions of the film, they were not nearly as intensely frightening as Signs. I don't believe that was Shyamalan's intent. It was an intelligent film, and a good story. You didn't leave the theatre saying 'wow!' as you may have after seeing Signs or Sixth Sense, but The Village is nonetheless a movie worth seeing.
