Snakes on a Plane

August 18, 2006 - -

Saw the movie today. It was actually much better than I'd expected. I expected a bad, bad movie. A lot of the parts towards the beginning, meaning the initial snake attacks, had all of us laughing out loud, very loud. Yes, they were violent, but they were so over the top that we had to laugh.

(Great clip here of the iconic Samuel L Jackson cursing from this movie complete with audience reaction)

The part of the copilot was played by David Koechner, whom I recognised from his roles in Ron Burgundy and Talladega Nights. He was also a welcome comic element. When I saw the guy in the above picture, I knew I recognised him from somewhere, but couldn't place it. I now think that I thought it was James Caviezel, when in fact I think the actor is Tygh Runyan.

Overall, comedy was well-integrated into the movie. For example, I loved this one bit where amidst all the disaster, you briefly hear some random passenger off camera yell "This stinks!"

Afterwards, a co-worker and I went out for drinks and hit the arcade in Manitou. Samurai Showdown, Dance Dance Revolution, even a lot of old mechanical games, but no Street Fighter 2.
