Land of Liberty?

September 26, 2006 - -

I was hugely taken aback last week when I read the article in Rolling Stone Magazine about tampering the 2004 election. Now, I find out that a judge here in Colorado approved voting machines for use after stating that they were easily tampered with. What the hell? So now we're just accepting that our elected officials may not be actually elected? We're just flushing the central tenet of democracy? To me, very little is more important than ensuring that the election system is conducted fairly and without interference of any kind. It's one thing to argue that live coverage of elections skews the results, but it's entirely another thing when people accept the fact that their votes may count for nothing. Sorry for the rant, but this just pisses me off.

This is an especially important issue during these times when the nation is so polarized. Elections can be decided by very little, and flaws with machinery that can be easily exploited are extremely dangerous.

You state "So now we're just accepting that our elected officials may not be actually elected?"...

...one only needs to look at the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania avenue to see this in action.

Vote via absentee ballot. No voting machines there.
