Deja Vu

November 27, 2006 - -

Linda and I saw the Denzel Washington movie Deja Vu this weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised. Granted, I liked Denzel in Man on Fire and Bone Collector, but Deja Vu is up on par with his better movies, such as Fallen and The Pelican Brief. Great flick.

If you don't want to be spoiled about the movie, stop reading here, because I'm about to drop some spoilers.

Deja VuThe sci-fi technology in this movie is a machine which allows the characters to essentially view the past. But only exactly 4 days and 6 hours in the past. It allows for some very interesting plot. My favorite scene in the movie is a car chase in which Denzel is wearing a goggle rig which allows him to see the past. And he's chasing a car that was driving in that area 4 days ago. With his left eye, he's viewing the past and the car he's chasing. With his right eye, he's looking at the present and trying to avoid crashing. That was a hell of a set piece.

The science in the movie was excellent until the last 15 minutes or so, when things really broke down and the paradoxes showed up. But still, it's a great movie.
