The Anguished Dawn

Monday, May 14th 2007 ·

I've got a lot of books on my bookshelf that I'm eager to read: Eldest, Black Monday, The Golden Compass, I'm not exactly sure which I'll read next. But I've just finished with James P. Hogan's The Anguished Dawn, which my uncle has been nagging me to finish. Apparently, "Jim wants to know what I think" - eek. Never reveiwed a book before with the thought that the actual author might read it. It's a bit intimidating.

So as you read the review I've just scribbled up, keep in mind that only about 10 minutes thought went into it, and that the "ratings" I give books signify only how much I personally enjoyed the book. Hey - other folks out there enjoy People Magazine and American Idol. To each his own.

Nagging? Surely not. Gentle prodding, at most.

Glad you liked the book.

PS

How do you think the "actual authors" figure out what their readers want to read?

Too bad L. Ron is dead . . . he'd _love_ you. Hey--dead people vote, right? No reason they can't write books I guess.

I dunno - Battlefield Earth was great, but The Invaders Plan was horrible.

Law of Averages, I expect. Considering that El-Ron started writing for the pulps in 1930-something, cranked out well over a thousand books and articles, founded a church (Scientology), invented Dianetics and fought in WW II, it's a wonder the guy had time to take a crap. You gotta expect him to have an off day now and again.
