Slow Month

August 9, 2007 -

You may notice that the past week or so, I've not been posting much. I've let the Friday "character of the week" and weekly quiz things slack, and in general haven't been online as much. I expect things to be this way until September or so. Between having a new child, studying for MCAD certification, and constant company at our house, things have been a bit nuts.

In the meantime, I'm still watching and loving The 4400, finding a couple hours a week to play Puzzle Quest and Baldurs Gate 2, and trying to figure out how I'm going to make time to play BioShock and TimeShift when they come out in a few weeks.

Lia's cuteness is skyrocketing. She's holding up her head all by herself, and she nearly always smiles when she catches sight of Linda or I. She's got to be the happiest baby ever - she only really cries when there's something wrong, (diaper, hungry) or when she gets into her cranky evening period just before bedtime. She's so damn cute, in fact, that I made some kind of Helen of Troy comment, and Linda responded that Lia had the butt that launched 1000 shits.

So anyway, sorry things are slow at Blog of Wonder. In the meantime, please enjoy this short film of a man with a tape recorder up his nose.

I guess I can understand why you're wasting your time and money to become a Microsoft Certified Anything. While a good number of employers have come to realize that such certification is worthless, many haven't, and one must make a living.

Take heart--given the nature of the test, you won't be required to demonstrate any actual skill. You'll simply be required to pass the test, as well as contribute another bit to the MS revenue stream.

Lest you be tempted to defend such "certifications," please keep in mind that I've been a trainer for over 40 years.

Good luck.

Tagger doesn't realize that worthless is in the eyes of the beholder.
What for one employer is a non-consideration may be treated seriously at another.
I would argue that at a minimum Microsoft has to treat these certifications with some seriousness.
I prefer o'reilly's safari service for studying computer programming information. Many publishers, more information than you can shake a stick at including MCAD study guides.
