I heard someone recently make a joke about recasting Lord of the Rings with Jim Carrey as Smeagol, and the thought was so funny that I started thinking of my own recastings, both good and bad. My first one came from the two alternate selections for Neo in The Matrix that had been considered, and I kind of went from there...
The Matrix
- Good: Ewan McGregor as Neo, Samuel L. Jackson as Morpheus
- Still good: Will Smith as Neo, Kevin Spacey as Morpheus
- Not good: Christian Slater as Neo, Bill Cosby as Morpheus
X-Men
- Perfect: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier
- Still not bad: Viggo Mortensen as Wolverine, John Hurt as Charles Xavier
- Bad: Jack Nicholson as Wolverine, Vin Diesel as Charles Xavier
The A-Team
- Nice: Ed Norton as Hannibal, Michael Clarke Duncan as B.A. Baracus, Mark Wahlberg as Face
- Could Live with: Morgan Freeman as Hannibal, Michael Chiklis as B.A. Baracus, Kevin Bacon as Face
- Please God No: George Carlin as Hannibal, Chris Tucker as B.A. Baracus , Owen Wilson as Face

I want to re-dub the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy with Ian McDiarmid (as Emperor Palpatine) replacing Ian McKellan's Galdalf dialog.

This reminds me of a party/roadtrip discussion-game I thought up a while back... Cast Muppet Show characters in inappropriate or semi-inappropriate remakes. Bonus if you can rework "Muppet" into the title, and you're allowed one special guest star. For instance, here's one I need help on (or do I just need help?)...

Star wars (First Trilogy: A new hope, Empire, Jedi)
Good: Matt Damon as Luke, Ed Harris as Old Obi Wan, Jessica Alba as Leia, and Viggo Mortenson as Han.
So So: Chris O'Donnel as Luke, Sean Connery as Old Obi Wan, Megan Fox(Transformers) as Leia and Patrick Swayze(Circa: Red Dawn, Dirty Dancing) as Han.
Beyond Bad: Fred Savage as Luke, Gilbert Godfried as Old Obi Wan, Beyonce' as Leia and Nicholas Cage as Han.
Good: Matt Damon as Luke, Ed Harris as Old Obi Wan, Jessica Alba as Leia, and Viggo Mortenson as Han.
