TV Drought

January 23, 2008 -

At least in part due to the writers' strike, there's a dearth of good TV shows right now. Soon, Lost will be airing its 4th season, and likewise House will be on the air come next Tuesday, but I thought I'd write about what we've been watching in the meantime.

Last night, we watched the first two episodes of a show called Dexter. You may have heard of it - it's about a serial killer working as a forensics analyst for the police. Having a protagonist who's a serial killer is... odd. To say the least. Ten minutes into the first episode, we weren't sure if we should keep watching. But now we're intrigued, and we're going to give it at least four episodes before we decide.

We've also been watching a lot of Farscape - we have the first two seasons on DVD, and we just hit Look at the Princess, which is a three part episode. I'd forgotten - that episode is where Farscape started getting really really good. It's still my all-time favorite TV show. The 4400 is a close second.

Lastly, we've started watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. We saw episode 1 and have episode 2 on a disc at home waiting to be watched. (thanks, Frank) Episode 3 is on our Tivo. So we'll be giving that series a chance and hoping it's better than the new Bionic Woman.

All of my other favorite TV shows have been cancelled. At least Battlestar Galactica starts again in March.

This writer's strike is interesting because podcasting wasn't an alternate source of entertainment. Most podcasts are commercial free or commercial lite and many are pretty good. If this strike continues and things like movies start drying up too, some interesting things might start happening in the podcasting world. I'm not trying to say that podcasting will replace television and movies... but serious podcasting (like your Revision3's) might get a nice boost from this TV Drought.
