PS3 Demos

April 3, 2008 -

I've learned the value of demos. From now on, I'll be downloading PS3 demos of any game I'm about to purchase. because I dropped $9 on Fl0w, and it's really not a good game. At all.

I mean, probably it's a good game to play if you're drunk. Linda calls it the smoking pot game. You basically control a colorful neon organism as it moves around the screen eating other organisms. I haven't yet found any way to lose, and I can't imagine the game really having a conclusion, so I imagine if you set the controller on a surface that moved randomly and left it overnight, you'd win the game. If it actually has an ending.

I tried out a few other PS3 demos, including Stardust HD, which is a great game. I'm considering buying it. It's essentially an update of Asteroids with a Robotron control scheme, like Geometry Wars. You've got three weapons, each best suited to destroying a certain type of asteroid, and there are plentt of power-ups. You've also got a boost button, a la Defender, and a bomb button, a la Geometry Wars.

I played the demos for Puzzle Fighter and Turok, but didn't like either. I'm going to try the demo for Burnout Paradise tonight. I generally don't like racing games, but the demo is free, so what the heck?

I also gave Uncharted: Drake's Fortune a try last night for the first time. It's not as bad as I'd feared. I'll probably actually finish the game, although I generally hate playing shooters without the good old mouse and keyboard.

Anyone know of any other PS3 demos I should try?
