Guitar Idol

September 9, 2008 - -

Has anyone else seen this ridiculous commercial? It was on TV all weekend - I don't even watch much TV, and I swear I saw it three times. This thing is a ridiculously oversized plastic guitar pick with a speaker and an accelerometer. You can strum it up and down, and you hear music. It's kind of like a mp3 player that has a crappy speaker and only plays a couple songs, and you have to shake it around to hear anything.

The commercial shows people jumping around like air guitar freaks, but given that it's not a Rock Band type game, for how long could this actually be entertaining? Fifteen seconds?

Haven't seen a commercial this bad since My L'il Reminder.

FIRST there was:
THE ORIGINS OF THE GUITAR

THE ORIGINAL STRING GUITAR

THEN CAME THE ELECTRIC Guitar.

followed by
the Air guitar. In the earliy sixties. For those who could not afford such musical intruments.
then for the children of the 2000 generation came Guitar Hero.

and Now this cheap piece of plastic for all those deprived children who can't afford Guitar Hero.

As for the comercial it looks like it was produced six graders. Heck Greg your production in highschool was 10000000 times better...

This brings to mind the International Air Guitar Championships. Yes this embarassing form of brain dead, dimwittedness is actually embraced...nay encouraged in other countries. Yes these dilettantes with too much time on their hands not only have the juevos to jump on stage in front of a ton of people; pretending to jam to Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, Vaughn etc (for all intents an purposes what looks like an Apoplectic fit.) They actually have fans, groupies in some cases and a contest that pays the winner of such asinine frivolity (personally I don't know how you can judge such a contest and keep a straight face, let alone any self-respect and thats just the judge). Knock USA all you want, Europeans have their own brand of crazy "stupid", this is just one example.
