Classical Music

December 6, 2004 -

At some point, I'm going to have to add a section to my site wherein I list my favorite classical music. From the Beethoven used as incidental music on The Smurfs to Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini to Mozart's Turkish March, I've enjoyed Classical Music for a long time.

But for over a decade, there was onr piece I'd hear from time to time that I really liked but couldn't put a name to, and so couldn't get a copy of. I only knew that there was a portion of an organ version of it played towards the end of The Doors movie. I recorded it onto a video tape when I worked at FOX-61 in Hartford, and listened to it a couple times over the intervening years, but never found its name.

Then, a few months before my wedding, my mother gave me a classical compilation on which she'd burned Canon in D, a song which I played during our ceremony. On it was also a song called "Adadgio in G Minor for Strings and Organ", a less than descriptive name. I found that it was written by someone named Tomaso Albinoni, and my search was over. Thanks, mom.

You can listen to the beginning of the song on Amazon.com by finding track 2 on this CD and clicking "listen".

. . . hauntingly beautiful. This one's been stuck in my head, replayed often, but now I know the name of it. Thanks. I love your idea of adding classical favorites to your site Greg.
