TV Roundup

April 13, 2015 -

I haven't talked recently about the television that I've been watching, and now strikes me as a good time. I quit watching the 12 Monkeys TV series after 3-4 episodes, and I'm not sure I even got through the pilot of Librarians. I watched the first episode of Last Man on Earth and got bored. But there's a lot of good TV on now. Here's the roundup.

Daredevil - The show was just released on Netflix on Friday, and I had the opportunity to binge watch ten episodes over the weekend. It does not disappoint. Although it's rated PG-13, I might have guessed R. There are a lot of protracted brutal fight scenes, and there is some gore. More than I'd ideally like in fact, but it doesn't detract from the fact that it's a solid show which I think gets better as the season progresses.

The Flash - Another very good superhero show. Probably the first thing I've seen from DC that I've honestly enjoyed since The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger. It started slow, but the most recent two episodes have been great. I wants me some more GRODD.

Agents of SHIELD - Sometimes uneven, but I'm a huge fan of the Marvel cinematic universe, and the tie-ins are can't-miss things for me. They've been doing stuff recently with The Inhumans, which is interesting since I know nothing about those characters.

Agent Carter - While not yet as good as many of the other superhero shows, I did enjoy Agent Carter, and I plan to continue watching to see where it goes.

The Legend of Korra - I've been rewatching the series with my wife and 7-year-old daughter, and we're nearing the end of season three. It's a great show with a fantastic soundtrack, even if it's not quite as amazing as Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The Walking Dead - I'm still watching, although I'm not sure where the show is going. At this point, I'm probably something like three episodes behind. The Walking Dead does have occasional moments of greatness, though. I guess I'm watching for those.

Big Bang Theory - Very much a throwaway show. It's what Linda and I watch when we've got 20 minutes free and we don't want to have to pay too much attention. There was one moment recently (with the peanut brittle) that had me laughing pretty hard.

Orphan Black - Orphan Black is back on soon for the third season, and I'm very excited. Since Fringe ended, Orphan Black has probably been my favorite show. Tatiana Maslany (is that her name?) is pretty amazing in all her different roles.

Game of Thrones - Here's another show that just started back up. My hopes are not high, as the TV show has now reached the point at which the books started to suck. I'm hopeful that the show will somehow be better, but I fear it will not. Time will tell.
