Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson
So many people recommended Snow Crash to me that I finally caved. Perhaps my expectations were high enough that I was expecting something that was... not a Neal Stephenson novel. Amazingly, I finished reading the book. And it was good, although I can't place it amongst my favorite books.
It's amazing how a book written in the 90s could predict so many things so well that I read it in 2012 and didn't even notice that so much of what was written about didn't yet exist at the time of the book's authorship.
The book certainly slowed down towards the middle when discussion of Sumerian culture and events of milennia past took up multiple chapters, but the action scenes were frequent enough that the book didn't completely lose my attention. Still, I've no interest in reading Stephenson again any time soon. It can be like wading through hip-deep molasses.
