I've been an avid reader of fantasy and sci-fi books since I can remember - reading C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, and the book that really dragged me into it all - Terry Brooks's Elfstones of Shannara, which I read when I was 14. Godslayer, by Mickey Zucker Reichert
The catch of this book is much the same as the Guardians of Flame series, but where that series mostly ignores modern-day earth after book one, the Godslayer series totally ignores it. It was a good hook, but totally unnecessary for the series as a whole.
Like the Renshai series, this story draws strongly from Norse mythology, and has a fascinating order of wizards called Dragonrank. The stories aren't nearly so long as some, and make for a good read.
