A nice followup to his first book. Victor Frankenstein, sadistic master of medical science, has through his genius managed to keep himself alive, and lives in modern-day New Orleans under a pseudonym. His plot to repopulate the world with his own race of humanity is a secret to all but the two protagonist police officers, and to Frankenstein's original monster, who is also still alive.

I did begin to notice homages to other stories in City of Twilight that did not exist in book one. Koontz has Frankenstein categorize his classes as Alphas, Betas, Gammas, and Epsilons - remniscient of Huxley's A Brave New World, and more than one of Frankenstein's creations is numbered - Erika Five, Randal Six - which is reminiscent of Logan's Run. Still, I enjoyed the story, and will be eagerly awaiting the third and final volume, due in Summer of 2006.
