I've been an avid reader of fantasy and sci-fi books since I can remember - reading C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, and the book that really dragged me into it all - Terry Brooks's Elfstones of Shannara, which I read when I was 14. I still read a lot, and I've taken to posting reviews of the books here. Enjoy.
Dead Beat, by Jim Butcher
Unlike most book series, Jim Butcher's Dresden novels have gotten better as they go. I'd call Dead Beat my second favorite of the series, behind Blood Rites.
Each book has an overarching enemy. In past books, it's been other wizards, Vampires, Werewolves, Faerie creatures, and even demons. In this book, it's necromancers. And they're pretty badass.
This book has amazing humor - I can't even count the number of times I laughed out loud.
