My Lil Reminder

January 8, 2007 - -

Linda and I were watching TV yesterday, and a commercial caught our attention. It was so uproariously stupid that we soon found ourselves laughing louder than we do at most comedies. It was a commercial for My Lil Reminder.

My lil reminderThe thing is basically a voice recorder with a built in flashlight. I've got a voice recorder built into my ancient cell phone, and I'll bet it's a better one than this. The commercial opens with porn music in the background, and an old woman who can't find her car in a parking lot. So she listens to the reminder she recorded for herself, and viola! she finds her car. Seems to me that remembering to record where you parked in the first place would be the toughest part.

My lil reminderThe acting in the commercial is what got us laughing in the first place, but the thing that made me fall off the couch is when people found themselves in a restaurant so dark that they needed a flashlight to read the menu. Good thing they had My Lil Reminder!!

Forgive me for scoffing at their "Micro Technology", but the $5 price tag on this piece of crap probably gives them a $4.50 profit.

You can watch the commercial on YouTube. Pay special attention to the woman at the end who recorded herself a reminder on her My Lil Reminder to remind herself to call and buy a My Lil Reminder.

Wish I'd thought it was a ridiculous commercial. It turns out to be an incredible scam. My 2 for $9.99 plus S & H turned out to cost me over $60. And some people paid more- for what I just ordered for a gag gift for someone turning 50. No telling if or when I'll ever see them either!

Sorry people. i designed this product over a year ago and never received any money for my work. The version i suggested to the manufacturer cost about 20 cents more to build but had significantly better sound quality. still trying to track down some info on the marketing company so if you can provide me with any contact information or anything about the company please let me know. i'd like to chat with them for obvious reasons. oh, by the way the flashlight wasn't my idea.
my contact info is johnb@idquest.com.

Check with the Connecticut Better Business Bureau under 3PL Worldwide Inc, the second 3 PL listed, and you will find information concerning this product & company. I was taken also, I ordered $271.69 worth to give to my family and friends as stocking stuffers and the product is junk so I returned them for a refund but only received $187.81 back. They said the shipping and handling costs on a package that weighed less than 16 ounces was $83.88. I will NEVER order another thing I see on television! Here is some info:

On 12/27/06 I started to order the std version - Then decided that for 9.99 more I could up-grade to the "Deluxe" junk, I decided to go for it. But when I found that was 9.99 for EACH, not the set of 2, I tried to back out of the order but there is no way to do that when you get to that point!

On Dec. 28, 2006 at 2:21 PM I sent the following order cancellation:
==========================================
Lil Reminder Customer Service:

I am canceling my order #1340517. Although your sales practice is not fraudulent it is misleading! I originally wanted to order the standard units at A SET of 2 for $9.99 - then I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to Deluxe model for $9.99 each. I believed that I was going to be charged $9.99 additional for the SET of 2, NOT $9.99 EACH unit!

Do not proceed with processing this order and issue a credit to the account which was charged!

I also called ant talked to a lady by the name of "Shirley" on Dec. 28, 2006 and asked to cancel the order.
==========================================
You have charged my credit card on Jan. 4, 2007 for the order. If this was an honest mistake, then I apologize in advance for my accusing your company of unethical and dishonest business practices!

I imagine I will be able to pay shipping and return the items for a credit (minus S+H charges). That will be $13.98 already charged plus the new shipping costs.

Please take the necessary steps to correct this issue.

David

A PS to my previous comment: I just discovered that 3PL CHARGED MY CARD again, but for the standard items.

We too ordered the $9.99 lil reminder and we're convinced to upgrade it to a better model. The cost was $19.98 each, for 2 sets (buy one get one free). Our credit card was charged $67.92, and no merchandise sent yet.

What they don't tell you on the commercial is that you can only record one 20 second message.

I have heard of a lot of people having these types of problems with "As seen on TV" type products. A pattern of "accidental" duplicate or inflated charges on credit cards. Yes... if you complain and write letters you will usually be refunded your money. But... I think many of these businesses count on people not noticing the charges or just be too busy to take the time to dispute them.

Very shady!!

My dad bought one of these crappy things and when he received it, he received two sets, not one as ordered, but two!!!! It should have cost him $23.82 but instead cost him $47.94 and the stupid thing(s) didn't even work. I think this product should be ban from being sold not only on TV but wherever else it is available. The company is so bad you can not even get to it. So I hope if you are thinking of buying one of these you read all of the comments above first.

The more who write a letter to the President and VP of the company the better and the faster this will either be corrected or diminished.Brian P. McGillicuddy

I ordered these for Christmas gifts and when I called in I told her they were gifts, she assured me they would arrive in time, I recieved them on Friday before Christmas on Monday, and I was needing to send some to Lubbock, SanAntonio, Wisconsin, so since I did not recieve them in time, I called told them I was shipping them back, asked if I needed to insure, she told me to just get confirmation that I mailed them, which I did, I also asked that my Credit Card be credited, I mailed them back on Jan 3, today I recieved another Credir Card bill, I have not yet been credited.

Your TV ad said two units for $9.95. They are junk and I want a refund including return shipping charges. This info is being submitted to the BBB and Attorney General. It is hard to believe that such scams exist!! R. W. Myers. email bobglo12@yahoo.com

Wow. That's pathetic. Write a note people! Who the hell needs to record a three item grocery list? I loved the flashlight in the restaurant. Can you imagine?

Great stuff!
