My Lil Reminder
Monday, January 8th 2007 · Humor · Television
Linda and I were watching TV yesterday, and a commercial caught our attention. It was so uproariously stupid that we soon found ourselves laughing louder than we do at most comedies. It was a commercial for My Lil Reminder.
The thing is basically a voice recorder with a built in flashlight. I've got a voice recorder built into my ancient cell phone, and I'll bet it's a better one than this. The commercial opens with porn music in the background, and an old woman who can't find her car in a parking lot. So she listens to the reminder she recorded for herself, and viola! she finds her car. Seems to me that remembering to record where you parked in the first place would be the toughest part.
The acting in the commercial is what got us laughing in the first place, but the thing that made me fall off the couch is when people found themselves in a restaurant so dark that they needed a flashlight to read the menu. Good thing they had My Lil Reminder!!
Forgive me for scoffing at their "Micro Technology", but the $5 price tag on this piece of crap probably gives them a $4.50 profit.
You can watch the commercial on YouTube. Pay special attention to the woman at the end who recorded herself a reminder on her My Lil Reminder to remind herself to call and buy a My Lil Reminder.
Great stuff!

On Dec. 28, 2006 at 2:21 PM I sent the following order cancellation:
==========================================
Lil Reminder Customer Service:
I am canceling my order #1340517. Although your sales practice is not fraudulent it is misleading! I originally wanted to order the standard units at A SET of 2 for $9.99 - then I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to Deluxe model for $9.99 each. I believed that I was going to be charged $9.99 additional for the SET of 2, NOT $9.99 EACH unit!
Do not proceed with processing this order and issue a credit to the account which was charged!
I also called ant talked to a lady by the name of "Shirley" on Dec. 28, 2006 and asked to cancel the order.
==========================================
You have charged my credit card on Jan. 4, 2007 for the order. If this was an honest mistake, then I apologize in advance for my accusing your company of unethical and dishonest business practices!
I imagine I will be able to pay shipping and return the items for a credit (minus S+H charges). That will be $13.98 already charged plus the new shipping costs.
Please take the necessary steps to correct this issue.
David

I have heard of a lot of people having these types of problems with "As seen on TV" type products. A pattern of "accidental" duplicate or inflated charges on credit cards. Yes... if you complain and write letters you will usually be refunded your money. But... I think many of these businesses count on people not noticing the charges or just be too busy to take the time to dispute them.
Very shady!!
