Game Gorge Week, Part 1

September 24, 2007 -

About once a year, maybe once every year and a half, I find myself at home alone while Linda is at a business conference or a vacation without me. During these times, usually a weekend, I gorge on videogames. It gets them out of my system for a while, and helps me keep up with all the games I want to play. You may remember when I did this last year.

On Saturday morning, I dropped Linda, her mom, and baby Lia off at the Denver airport. They'll be vacationing on Marco Island in Florida until next Wednesday. This gives me two full weekends and seven weeknights to gorge on games. Here's what's on my plate.

On Saturday, I finished playing Bioshock. I'll probably write a review this week, so all I'll say here is - I don't think I enjoyed it as much as other people did.

I played a good bit of God of War 2 this weekend, and I imagine I'm between two thirds and three quarters through the game. But I'm stuck. Horribly stuck. And not the kind of stuck where it's just a hard part of the game that you can eventually work your way through. I've just passed the Atlas portion of the game, and Atlas has given me his magic. I'm on a ledge where I can see a ramp across Atlas's face, and I assume I'm supposed to fly to it with Icarus's wings and proceed. But any time I try to jump over the cliff and fly that way, it's as if I'm hitting an invisible wall. Can't go that way. Ditto left and right. I'm stuck in this small area, and I can't so much as jump over the cliff and kill myself. There's nowhere to go! Help! If anyone has any advice, I'm all ears. If I ever finish this game, I'll move on to Metal Gear Solid 3.

I've also discovered Team Fortress 2. I only bought the game because I wanted Half-Life 2: Episode 2, and TF2 came with The Orange Box. I'd never played a multiplayer FPS before, but this one sounded good, so I decided to give it a shot. I played for about 5 or 6 hours yesterday. Granted, I suck horribly, but I had fun. I enjoy the Pyro and the Demo Man the most, but I'm thinking I should stick to Engineer or maybe try to get better with the Spy. Probably my favorite feature in the game is the ability to change classes every time you die. I like variety. Anyway, I believe you can view my stats here.

I'm also thinking that if I've got all week, maybe I can finish playing Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I completed the Temple of Time last night. This game is awesome. I'll have a glowing review once I finish it. And after I'm done, I'll be able to start some other games on the Wii I've been wanting to try: Ocarina of Time on the Virtual Console, and maybe go back to Eternal Darkness, where I'm totally stuck.

If I finish these games, I'm sure I'll go back to playing Baldurs Gate 2. I've finished that game before, but I now have the expansion, which I'd like to try. And Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass comes out next Monday on the Nintendo DS, and I'm sure I'll be picking that up.

I plan to write part two of my game gorge update before next Wednesday, so stay tuned.
