Things I'm Looking Forward To

June 26, 2008 - - -

Sure, I'm looking forward to when Lia starts to talk, getting my other blog off the ground*, and getting back out to Connecticut to see family and friends, but these are hardly things that readers of this blog will care much about. So let me throw together one of those ubiquitous bulleted lists, delineating the media I'm anticipating.

  • FarscapeFarscape Webisodes - Farscape was one of my absolute favorite TV shows. Probably my #2 favorite TV show ever, following only The 4400. When I heard that the SciFi Channel had ordered ten webisodes, essentially new Farscape episodes, I was ecstatic. Short of new episodes of The 4400 or The Tick, I couldn't be happier.
  • Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive PeopleStrong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People - Episodic gaming is a strange thing. I was never big on Sam and Max, but I've always loved the Half-Life episodes. And I still haven't tried PAA:Ep1:OtRSPoD, but I plan to once I actually start using my PC for gaming again. Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People is being released as WiiWare: downloadable content for the Wii. I've been a big fan of HomestarRunner.com for years, and the first episode of this game, Homestar Ruiner, is supposed to be out in July. Seriously.
  • BrisingrBrisingr - The third book in the Christopher Paolini's Inheritance series is due out on September 20th. The first two were amongst the best fantasy I've read in the past decade, so I'm very much looking forward to it.
  • James Cameron's Avatar - No, this isn't The Last Airbender. James Cameron has a project in the works, and the descriptions of the project are myriad. I don't know exactly what it's about, but it's definitely science fiction, and judging by James Cameron's track record it should be pretty good. Currently, it looks like the film should be coming out in December 2009, but who knows how delayed it will be.
  • Heavy RainHeavy Rain: The Origami Killer - When I first heard about this game, a spiritual successor to Indigo Prophecy, it made me sad that I wasn't planning on buying a Playstation 3. Now, I've got the PS3, and I'm looking forward to this game as much as I'm looking forward to Resident Evil 5 and Little Big Planet. It's being called "A very dark noir thriller with mature themes", and no supernatural elements. Although it supposedly doesn't use the same controls as Indigo Prophecy, I imagine they'll be different enough from traditional adventure games to have the same lure. Heavy Rain is supposed to be out this year. Yay.
  • Fallout 3 - If I could only play one game this year, it wouldn't be Spore. It wouldn't be Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It wouldn't even be Starcraft 2, which I'm looking forward to quite a lot. It would be Fallout 3. I was a huge fan of the first two games, and I've played them more than once. The new Fallout game is a departure from the first two in that it's going to use Oblivion's engine, but I was a big fan of Oblivion too. As long as the mood and the dark humor of the first two games remains, I'll be happy.
  • Dexter Season 3 - With The 4400 canceled, Dexter is now my favorite show on television. Sure, I like Heroes, and I like 24. But Dexter is better. Can't wait for season three.
  • Beyond Good and Evil 2 - Two years ago, when I blogged about game sequels, the one I wanted most was Beyond Good and Evil 2. Looks like my dream has come true. I'm a bit tentative about the hyper-realistic appearance of the teaser, but so long as the gameplay and the story themes remain the same, I'm sold.

Well, that's mine. What games/movies/television are you most looking forward to? Dollhouse? Dark Knight? Madden '09?
