Rocky Mountain High for the Connecticut Guy

November 24, 2004 - -

Linda and I just found out Friday, and I don't know whether I should be nervous or excited. I'm both. We'd been looking into it over the summer, but gave up on it after September passed with no news.

We're moving to Colorado.

Friday, Linda got the call at work. She IM'ed me about it, and the notion was so surreal that I didn't even consider it until after work that day. Friday night we went out to dinner and discussed it. Colorado's lower living expenses means that I'll be able to go back to school. It is quite literally an offer too good to refuse.

The town we'll live in is called Cañon City (pronounced Canyon City), and it's about two hours South of Denver. Linda will be the lead architect in a small group designing and building a community.

The plan right now (and plans do of course change) is for her to fly out the weekend of December 4th and work for Gary for two weeks, during which time she'll find us a place to live and I'll continue working in Connecticut. We plan to rent out there for at least six months until a house is built for us.

Linda is flying back the weekend of the 18th, and Friday the 17th is my last day of work at Travelers. We'll spend the following week packing and celebrating Christmas with my family in Connecticut, and drive out to Colorado the weekend following. They're covering our moving expenses, but we've got to drive the car ourselves. Thank goodness we only own one car between the two of us.

It's too much too fast - my head is still spinning. But I have no doubts that this is a positive change. It will allow us to do so many things we'd have no chance to do out here, and we'll no longer have the hellish two hour commute to deal with. I'm sure I'll post frequent updates here, as much as the impending havoc allows.

Hey Greg -

Happy for both of you ! :-) Sounds like Linda is going into a dream job -- what this guy is offering only happens to the best of the best. And the Swing scene in Denver is awesome, one of the best in the country (but you knew that already...). WOW ! Post something on Swingmonkey and let everyone know !
