The Television of 2025: Q3

September 24, 2025 -

Man, time's going quickly. Here we are, three quarters through 2025. I've got five or so TV shows of note from the past three months to talk about, even though I'm still not finished with a few of them.

Squid Game

Squid Game, Season 3

The first season remains the show's pinnacle, but seasons two and three ended up being worth watching. I do hope to see more of Lee Jung-jae, as I really liked him in The Acolyte.

This new Squid Game show in Los Angeles seems gimmicky but inevitable. I'll likely watch, but I'd be surprised if it's as good as the original Korean show.

Ironheart

Ironheart

Although it was one of the less remarkable Marvel shows, Ironheart did a few things very well. In its final episodes, it introduced an excellent new villain, and the blend of magic and tech that is the Ironheart suit makes for an interesting new niche.

The Lazarus Project

The Lazarus Project

A fascinating British sci-fi show with a time loop premise, I knew from the start that this show would be in my wheelhouse. And while it's not the best show I've ever seen, I certainly enjoyed it.

The main character's facial expressions were an immediate draw, and I'm a fan of the show's occasional unexpected humor. As the episodes progressed, I was caught off-guard by the twists, and the plot evolved in unexpected directions right up until the end.

There's a second season, but I didn't think it was as good. Towards the end, it got extremely confusing.

Alien Earth

Alien: Earth

During the first episode, I was immediately impressed with the set dressing, and with how well they'd replicated the original film's atmosphere. As the series progressed, it diverged in unexpected ways, but it was far better than the newer Ridley Scott films.

I'm at least two episodes behind as I write this.

Peacemaker

Peacemaker, Season 2

Even funnier and more vulgar than the first season. James Gunn went ahead and retconned the final episode of the first season to now include The Justice Gang rather than the old school Justice League.

Adrian remains an amazing and psychotic comic relief, and Economos has become a favorite. For my money, Peacemaker is better than James Gunn's new Superman.
