It's the end of the year already, and time for me to wrap up the shows I've been watching over the past few months. At some point after this, I'll go back through them with a best of 2025 post.
I tend to follow all the Marvel TV shows pretty religiously. As of right now, Eyes of Wakanda is the only one I haven't completed, and I do plan to. The animated MCU shows don't all appeal to me as much as the live action stuff, although the first season of What If? was very good.
The Marvel Zombies show was basically a continuation of the What If? season one episode "What If... Zombies?", and as such it was entertaining enough. It didn't hold a candle to Hawkeye or WandaVision though.
Apple TV is notable for two reasons. Firstly, they have the worst user interface of all the streaming services. I've spent ten minutes just trying to find the list of episodes for a show and found myself giving up to go watch something else. But the second thing is the very small number of absolutely amazing shows they've got: For All Mankind, Severance, Silo, Murderbot. And now Pluribus.
The premise is a variant on the bodysnatchers trope with enough of a twist to make it something entirely new. And although the show is slow-moving at times, I'm completely engaged.
Of course this had to be here. The last few episodes of what's been my favorite show for quite some time? Given that the second block of episodes won't release until Christmas and the series finale not until Christmas eve, it's difficult to make a final assessment. But despite the kids being played by nearly 30-year-old actors, and regardless of those who have lost interest in the show, I'm still enjoying it quite a bit.
This is a major one-off. I put this show on in the background, and the first episode was so amazingly ridiculous that I had to share, and rewatched with my wife and my brother over Thanksgiving break. That first episode is basically the story of a Florida Man who decides to wander off into the swamp, get lost, and get his arm ripped off by an alligator. The guy to whom this actually happened is narrating the story while it's being dramatized by actors, Drunk History style, and from his tone, he had a great time. He flat-out stated that he'd like to do it again.
The subsequent episodes aren't nearly as good, but that first one. Whew. Seriously, it's wild.
It's a show I'd been wanting to watch for some time. And while it's not as amazing as Breaking Bad or Ozark, I've been enjoying it. As I'm writing this, I've got four episodes remaining in the final season, and I'm hoping for some kind of mind-blowing thing to happen at the end, but who knows?
